Presnell reading
11 04 2011Wow. I really like how Presnell talked about the pros and cons of using a traditional research paper, oral presentation and powerpoint. It really makes me appreciate the structure of this class more because we incorporate all three of these methods in communicating our argument to an audience. I think that as a result, we will become stronger and more effective researchers because we are able to incorporate our analysis/argument through more than one type of medium. I think that the way Presnell lays out how to write a research paper is very easy to follow because she breaks it down into chunks making it easier to remember and execute. I think something that Presnell emphasizes is keeping your audience in mind when communicating in these presentations. I think sometimes as students we forget that we have an audience because we assume our professor will be the only one to read/pay close attention to our research papers/ presentations/websites when that is not always the case. Future employers, other students and other professors may read your work to get some understanding of the material or to see what type of writer you are and if you are effective. I think that Presnell is good at reminding us to keep all of that in mind when working with these assignements.

What? You mean I have to present to more than just Professor Moon?
Of course, I jest, but only a bit. I frequently forget that I need to speak to my classmates, too. Since professors have the grade book in their hands, its hard to remember to entertain classmates at the same time. Those two audiences conflict in interest levels, as well.
